One of the most rewarding parts of the journeys through Nepal has been interacting with the kids. Along our treks through the mountains we witness kids playing together, working together, being sons and daughters, being curious and creative, being brothers and sisters… just being kids.
They have nothing, they have everything - JOY.
Alongside the joy, many are coughing with runny, snotty noses. Most live in houses with open fire for heat and cooking - and not much in the way of venting. In one small village, I’ve awakened to the smell of smoke at 5 am and the sight of a full-on fire inside the room we're sleeping.
As we travel through the mountains and villages, small hard candies have been a great way to connect with the kids. Hand one kid a candy, you get a smile. Pretty soon there's a crowd of curious joy surrounding you!
